According to a recent ZipRecruiter survey of more than 1,500 college graduates looking for a job, nearly half – 44 percent – said they regret their college major choice. Journalism was the most regretted college major. Sociology and liberal arts / general studies tied for second place followed by degrees in communications and education. Political science, biology and English language / literature also made the top 10 list. Not everyone hated their major selection....

The Norwegian Consumer Council (Forbrukerrådet) issued a report this week concluding that loot-box mechanics in games are predatory and exploit consumers. It claims that these monetization platforms use techniques to deceive and manipulate the consumer into spending “(a lot)” of money with no guarantee of a product of comparable value. The report has prompted consumer watchdogs in 18 other countries to call for stricter regulation of games employing loot boxes....

Performance then starts to drop off with the Athlon II X2 250 managing just 121fps, which made it 14% slower than the Phenom II X2 555. The Pentium E6600 rendered an average of 111fps, while the Sempron 140 does better than expected at 104fps – enough to beat Pentium E5400 and Celeron E3300 by 8% and 24% margins. AMD’s processors dominated when testing with Street Fighter IV. The Athlon II X4 630 managed to deliver 190fps at 1920x1200, while the Athlon II X3 435 achieved 187fps and the Phenom II X2 555 averaged 185fps....

It feels like forever that we have been waiting for the PS5 and XBSX versions of Cyberpunk 2077, but fans have been willing to wait as long as it takes for CD Projekt Red to release them without a flaw. The studio finally released the upgrades on Monday, but it was not without issues. Cyberpunk’s gigantic 50GB 1.5 patch improved a lot of things and officially released the next-gen upgrades that CDPR had promised....

Moving on, we have Total War: Warhammer and using DirectX 11 we find that the 7700K does slightly better with the GTX 1060 while the 1800X was a fraction faster with the RX 480. These aren’t exactly decisive margins though, so let’s check out the DX12 figures. Ryzen looks significantly more competitive here when using the RX 480 – this is the most extreme example yet. The 7700K was 28% faster on average and 27% faster at minimum when using the GTX 1060, which certainly explains our Titan XP results seen previously....

At 1920x1200 we were unable to achieve an average of 60fps on any of the GPUs tested, with the GTX 980 coming closest with an average of 59fps, 5% faster than the R9 290X. We wouldn’t want to play with less than 30fps which will require folks with a HD 7870/R9 270 or GTX 660 to reduce the game’s quality settings. For the bare minimum 30fps on ultra, you’ll need a GTX 660 Ti, GTX 760 or R9 270X/HD 7950....

Months after EA suggested it could change the name of its iconic game series in a spat with FIFA, it’s now official. Despite dropping the FIFA name, the publisher maintains deals with many other soccer leagues, teams, players, and brands, including the Premier League, LaLiga, Bundesliga, Serie A, and the MLS. The company promises its future games will retain all the content and modes from recent FIFA releases, except for World Cup content every four years....

The SanDisk eMMC SDIN8DE4-64GB provides a maximum sequential read throughput of just 105MB/s, which is considerably lower than a decent hard drive. The sequential write performance is even worse with the SanDisk eMMC SDIN8DE4-64GB being more than three times slower than the WD Black hard drive. The random 512K read performance is decent by hard drive standards, but slow by SSD standards. Despite the decent random 512K read performance the write result for the SanDisk eMMC SDIN8DE4-64GB was horrible, with just 22MB/s....

El Salvador president Nayib Bukele has placed a lot of faith in Bitcoin. From the initial investment of 400 coins, worth about $20.9 million at the time, Bukele has repeatedly ‘bought the dip,’ purchasing more every time the price fell. The highest it has paid was $60,300 per coin, while the lowest was $30,700 last month when Bukele added another 500 to the collection. Bitcoin dropped to $20,834 a few hours ago, its lowest point since early December 2020....

Most of Musk’s wealth is tied to his Tesla stock. Although the EV giant has seen its share price rise by more than 1,000% over the last two years, it has been on a downward trajectory for much of 2022—it’s fallen 50% this year—partially due to Musk’s protracted and distracting $44 billion acquisition of Twitter. “The big problem is that many investors have lost some confidence in Tesla because Musk is being forced to focus so much of his attention on Twitter,” Miller Tabak’s chief market strategist Matt Maley told Forbes....

Using the Titan XP at 1080p we see that playable performance, or at least 60fps+ performance, can be had with pretty much any modern processor. That said, the aging AMD FX-series does struggle here and are put to rest by the Core i3-6100. For optimal performance gamers will want to clock up their unlocked Core i5 and Core i7 processors, especially if they are rocking a high refresh rate monitor....

LG saw that article and noticed we didn’t test any LG monitors – we didn’t have any on hand – so they did their part and sent us five of their latest gaming monitors for a test drive to see how well they behaved with Nvidia GPUs. We haven’t formally reviewed any LG monitors in a long time, and we thought we’d take the opportunity to revisit Nvidia’s FreeSync support with a collection of new, and in some cases, quite popular displays....

The AMD Radeon RX 6500 XT is a strange product that launched at the most inopportune time with a sticker price that doesn’t even qualify it as a cash grab. Despite Team Red’s good or bad motivations behind this deeply flawed graphics card release, its only achievement is that scalpers and cryptocurrency miners seem to have steered away from it. Our own Steven Walton wrote a scathing review of the card, but his view is shared among other reviewers who also believe AMD has cut features and specifications too far....

After such a strong launch, AMD was forced to cut prices. The Radeon R9 290 was dropped from $399 to $299 (10% cheaper than the GTX 970), the R9 290X moved from $549 to $399 and the R9 285 is now around for as low as $229. Folks looking to game at 4K now have some pretty capable multi-GPU options for as little as $600. Considering not even the GTX 980 can handle 4K gaming in the most demanding titles, that’s great news....

In Crysis 3, which is relatively old now yet still considered a benchmark for PC graphics we saw a 62% jump. The only game to see weaker scaling performance than Crysis 3 was the much newer Thief, which saw a mere 50% boost in performance from adding a second GTX 960. Still, of the eight games we tested five of them saw scaling of ~80% or greater. On average a performance boost of 76% was seen across the eight games and this was enough to see the GTX 960 SLI configuration beat the GTX 970 by a 13% margin, while falling short of the GTX 980 by just 3%....

Some readers were upset with that comparison though, claiming the 6700 XT was designed to compete with the RTX 3060 Ti, a comparison we were always going to make anyway. Technically speaking, the 6700 XT is priced closer to the RTX 3070 based on MSRP. But no need to lose sleep over that one as today we have another 50 game benchmark comparing the RTX 3060 Ti and 6700 XT, so we can put that debate to rest....

With the factory overclock enabled the card remained whisper quiet. When stress tested or when gaming, Gigabyte’s card was barely audible over other components in the system such as the case fans, power supply and CPU cooler. Like most other high-end overclocked graphics cards, the GTX 580 SOC is quite long and consumes a lot of power. However, because it operates at very low temperatures and generates very little noise, those two negate the disadvantages in our opinion, and it’s a tradeoff we think most enthusiasts would be content with....
