The Intel Museum originally opened its doors in 1983 to ensure the company’s history was accurately portrayed. According to the chipmaker, it’s the only tech company in Silicon Valley with a public museum dedicated to teaching people about Intel’s history and the technology it has developed over the past several decades. The museum was averaging around 85,000 visitors annually before shutting down due to the pandemic. Intel historian Liz Jones said the idea of a digital version of the museum has been in the works for years....

The recently published single-thread benchmark score of 4,883 leaves little doubt regarding the new Intel flagship’s capabilities. The 24-core i9 processor’s eight performance and 16 efficiency cores can reach as high as 5.8GHz thanks to Intel’s Thermal Velocity Boost (TVB) technology. The new architecture, combined with the i9’s TVB technology, resulted in a more than 400-point increase over the previous single thread champion, the i9-12900KS. The Core i5 661 was the first Intel CPU to feature built-in graphics, however its performance, and particularly the features were quite lackluster. In terms of value we failed to see the appeal in desktop Clarkdale processors considering that AMD was offering powerful quad-cores for the same price that could then be paired with feature-rich chipsets, such as the 890GX, for very little expense. This time around the GPU performance of the Sandy Bridge processors is quite impressive and unlike anything we’ve seen from an integrated solution before....

The random read 1MB performance was more impressive as the SSD 510 matched the RealSSD C300. The random read and random file size test again saw the Intel SSD 510 120GB closely match the performance of the Crucial RealSSD C300 256GB. The Intel SSD 510 barely managed to out-edge the Kingston SSDNow V 100 when measuring 512 bytes performance and it was much slower than the Vertex 2 Pro. The SSD 510’s random write 1MB performance was a fraction slower than the original Vertex 120GB and it also trailed behind the SSD 320 300GB and Samsung 470 Series 256GB....

Jabra announced the Enhance Plus earbuds some time ago, but they won’t arrive until February 25. The earbuds have already cleared the 510(k) standard from the FDA, which ensures that the product is as safe and effective as a legally marketed product already available in the US. Thanks to its compact design, the Enhance Plus are about 40 percent smaller than the Jabra Elite 7 Pro, which are amongst the smallest true wireless earbuds currently available....

On Tuesday, John Romero announced his studio has a new first-person shooter in development with an as-of-yet unnamed major publisher. Romero Games is currently hiring for the project. When measuring read performance in Atto Disk Benchmark, the HyperX 3K maxed out at 493MB/s while the SSDNow V+200 reached 490MB/s – both behind the fastest drive tested, which was the Samsung 830 Series 512GB at well over 500MB/s. The HyperX 3K reached 528MB/s when measuring writes, while the SSDNow V+200 240GB was slightly slower with 519MB/s. Both exceeded the performance other drives tested.

This week, a benchmark for an Intel graphics card appeared on Sisoftware, and it seems to compare favorably against Nvidia’s RTX 3070 Ti. The site scores the card in terms of stats like clock speed, GP compute (at multiple levels of precision), and efficiency. What has LG done to make that purchasing decision easier? They’ve jam-packed nearly every feature you can imagine into the G2, from a powerful Qualcomm Snadpdragon 800 SoC and a 1080p display, to an optically stabilized camera and finely tuned software. LG has clearly thrown everything they can into this device, and on paper it looks close to a complete handset package. Even though the G2 may come with a solid list of specifications, a list doesn’t reveal how well the features work together, or how fluid the experience is going to be....

At the same time, I’m at odds with the choice of the 1440p panel. Undoubtedly this display is the sharpest and clearest I’ve ever seen on a piece of technology, let alone a smartphone, so the technological achievement aspect is there, and yet the appreciable difference between 1080p and 1440p is small and it comes at a price. It’s unlikely anyone coming from a 1080p device will say “wow, that’s a lot better than what I was using” without doing a side-by-side comparison, indicative of how minor the resolution increase is....

This year, LG has focused on improving every aspect of the camera with their latest flagship, the G4, and the results might prove impressive once again. LG has upgraded the camera sensor to a 16-megapixel unit, kept the optical image stabilization and laser autofocus from the G3, and switched to a wide f/1.8 lens. Instead, the LG G4 uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 808 SoC. The worst thing about LG’s software offering is duplicate apps. There is simply no reason that an Android OEM needs to clog up the phone with apps that Google already provides. Two gallery apps. Two email apps. Two music apps. Two app stores! This undoubtedly creates a confusing out of box experience to people who aren’t as familiar with how Android works. Granted it’s not as bad as some smartphones (looking at you, Samsung), but I hate seeing those “choose which app to open” pop-ups before I install a single application....
