The Radeon HD 5870 did not perform all that well at 1680x1050 and 1920x1200 in our Supreme Commander tests, roughly matching the performance of the Radeon HD 4890. However, at 2560x1600 it was the fastest single-GPU graphics card tested with an average of 52fps. This game appears to work very well with multi-GPU technology, as the Crossfire and SLI cards show a definite advantage here. As we move on to Street Fighter IV, AMD’s Radeon HD 5870 continues to impress with an average frame rate of 132fps at 2560x1600....

While we did receive an average of 43fps at 2560x1600 in our Crysis Warhead test, we were only using high quality settings with both AA and AF disabled. This made the Radeon HD 5970 around 13% faster than the GeForce GTX 295 and 48% faster than the Radeon HD 5870. Far Cry 2 uses a heavily modified version of the CryEngine found on the original Far Cry title, known as the Dunia game engine....

On average the Radeon HD 5970 was 53% faster than the GeForce GTX 295 at 2560x1600. Even removing the top three tests where the Radeon led with the biggest margins (BattleForge, Enemy Territory and Street Fighter IV), the HD 5970 still ended up some 34% faster than the GTX 295. It’s easy to conclude from there that the Radeon HD 4870 X2 presented no contention whatsoever, and that ATI’s latest dual-GPU Radeon can claim the title of the fastest graphics card currently in the market....

Beats launched the original Pill in 2012. Since then, the portable speaker has received two variations. The first was the Pill XL in 2015, which is basically a larger version of the original. A year later, Beats launched the Pill Plus, bringing a more modern design to the speaker lineup. Beats hasn’t released a new speaker since the Pill Plus, which it ended up discontinuing in January. It’s safe to assume the other Pill speakers have also been discontinued considering the speaker section has disappeared from the official website....

The PlayBook runs RIM’s brand-new BlackBerry Tablet OS, which is based on the QNX OS that it purchased last year. Keen-eyed users will notice similarities to a number of other mobile operating systems - especially webOS. The application tray offers up crisp icons floating above the wallpaper much like iOS. The tray scrolls smoothly and quickly and has a kinetic bouncing effect when the end of the list is reached....

When it comes to application performance such as Excel, 7-zip and Photoshop, we saw a steady increase in performance as the systems increased in price. The performance gains didn’t match the extra cost of each system but that was to be expected. The core components of the Enthusiast’s PC costs 77% more than the Entry-Level Rig for example but we only saw a 46% improvement in 7-zip, though there was 69% more performance to be had in Excel and 72% in Photoshop....

The workhorse that is the Hubble Space Telescope has provided humanity with jaw-dropping images of our solar system and the universe at large for more than 30 years, despite a serious issue with the scope’s optical system that required hands-on repair in 1993. NASA astronauts in 2002 installed the Advanced Camera for Surveys (ACS), further expanding Hubble’s capabilities to see back in time - to within 435 million years of the Big Bang....

According to YouTube channel Moore’s Law is Dead, which cites industry sources, Nvidia is considering delaying the launch of the RTX 4000 (Ada Lovelace) cards until November or even December. While most rumors from anonymous industry sources should be taken with a heavy dose of salt, there have been signs that a postponement could be on the cards. The first indication came last month when we heard Nvidia could kill off the RTX 3080 12GB GPU....

The very high quality image is stunning, the textures are impressive, lighting is great, the rain effects are very realistic and there is loads of detail. When dropping the quality to high there is a noticeable difference in lighting quality, the rain doesn’t look quite as good and objects in the distance are showing less detail. Going from high to medium brings a massive reduction in quality. The lighting quality is now very poor and the light does not reflect off objects....

As we previously reported, Cyberpunk2077’s first story expansion is still a ways away, slated for sometime next year. However, that is the total of what we knew about the upcoming content drop — until now. On Monday, CD Projekt Red released a one-minute teaser for Cyberpunk 2077’s first narrative-driven add-on, Phantom Liberty (above). The teaser’s visuals are primarily cinematic, with brief glimpses of gameplay. However, it doesn’t reveal much of the storyline....

Patently Apple has uncovered a Dell patent for using laptop surfaces to charge portable devices. The system involves laying the devices on top of an accessory attached to the laptop supplying inductive power. The illustrations below are taken from Dell’s US patent application 20220239124, published last week, showing a wireless charging clip that attaches to a laptop just below the keyboard using magnets and a power output connection on the laptop....

Now the first thought that may come to mind is: why run this analysis? It is obvious that desktop PCs offer better performance and value, so do we really need to drop a great big turd on laptops? But that’s not our intention. Gaming laptops have earned their place in the market and that’s not up for debate. The idea is to show laptop buyers exactly how their systems will differ to a typical gaming desktop, which we believe is especially relevant when Nvidia’s naming scheme has muddied the waters a bit....

Enabling Crossfire or SLI significantly improved performance as we saw the GeForce GTX 590 delivering 75fps and the Radeon HD 6990 scoring 79fps. The GeForce GTX 580 SLI cards took the victory with a whopping 94fps.
