Here’s a quick look at the current generation Pentium and Core i3 line-up… The G4560 at $64 is pretty amazing. It not only invalidates the Core i3 range but it also kills off the higher end Pentiums as well. It’s 22% cheaper than the $82 G4600 and yet it’s clocked just 3% lower....
Out of the seven boards we are testing, the Asrock Z97 Extreme9 is the only one that supports four graphics cards, each with PCI Express 3.0 x8 bandwidth. However like the Z87 chipset before it the Z97 only supports a pair of PCI Express x16 slots with 8x bandwidth, so how is the Z97 Extreme9 offering four? Asrock has employed the PLX PEX 8747 bridge, the same PCIe bridge chip that has been used time and time again to give Z87 and Z77 motherboards support for 3-way and even 4-way SLI/Crossfire....
I think it’s very important to have a stable platform and now that we’ve picked our platform we’re sticking with it – we’re not going to make significant changes. Where we are doing tweaks is in manufacturability. Making it easy to manufacture, and reducing the defect rate. These are almost invisible tweaks and is a very common process with new technology: you start out with a version and then you do very minor revisions to it in order to improve the DFM (design for manufacturability)....

Legendary game maker John Carmack was so convinced that he resigned from id Software to devote his full attention to Oculus as the company’s CTO. Facebook was also building a name for themselves in the gaming industry as they served as the backbone for social networking titles like FarmVille and Mafia Wars. Perhaps Facebook had a genuine interest in realigning itself with gaming and intended to use virtual reality as a vehicle to do just that?...
The above image is a composite of the Cartwheel Galaxy from Webb’s Near-Infrared Camera (NIRCam) and Mid-Infrared Instrument (MIRI). The galaxy is located around 500 million light-years away in the Sculptor constellation and is the result of a collision between a large spiral galaxy and a smaller galaxy. Here, it is flanked by two smaller companion galaxies against a backdrop of many others. NASA said the bright center contains an enormous amount hot dust, and that the brightest areas are young star clusters....
A ComputerBase community member recently put several thermal pads and pastes to the test using an old Radeon R7 240 graphics card. The GPU is normally passively cooled but a fan was added to expedite the testing process. Some unconventional alternatives were thrown in to spice things up, and that’s more of what we are interested in here. The card is clocked at 780MHz @ 1.15V by default and has multiple levels of throttling that automatically dial back the clock speed and voltage supplied....
The program copy test is comprised of many small non-compressed files (6104 files totaling 2.75GB). This time the Kingston HyperX 240GB was a fraction slower than the Patriot Wildfire 240GB and Vertex 3, but it maintained its lead on the M4. The game copy evaluation is a mixture of small and large, compressed and non-compressed files. Again, we found the HyperX 240GB to be slightly slower than the Patriot Wildfire 240GB, but it’s worth noting that the M4 skipped to third place....

For those of you outside of Australia, you’ve probably never heard of the name ‘Kogan’; for the Aussies reading this article, you’ll probably be familiar with their low-cost electronics, specifically televisions, which they sell through their online-only store. Kogan has dabbled in the mobile phone market a few times, but the Agora 4G is their first real push into not only the Australian market, but worldwide....
One area where LG strongly succeeds is the design. The sealed metal-glass chassis is well built and far more premium than anything LG has made previously. The display is one of the G6’s best features. It’s taller and therefore larger than before, occupying more space of the front panel while shrinking the bezels. Like with the Galaxy S8, this makes the G6 look futuristic, while providing excellent brightness and an extremely crisp 1440p-class image....
The home screen shows a picture of the keyboard and at the bottom of the screen features a few icons for accessing some other menus. Here you can create a number of different profiles though I don’t suspect you will need more than one or two. There isn’t much that can be or needs to be changed. Gamers can disable the Windows key when gaming which is a handy feature....
Developed by the same team as the original (2K Czech, formerly Illusion Softworks), Mafia II was released for the Windows platform last August 24th. The game also received simultaneous launches for the PS3 and Xbox 360, but in spite of this the visual quality of the PC version does not suffer from the “crappy console port” syndrome. Rather Mafia II looks to be one of the best games of 2010 to show off the capabilities of current generation high-end GPUs....

For context, BeReal is a social media app that sends out a notification at a random time during the day. Users and their friends have two minutes to post a picture using the rear-facing and selfie cameras simultaneously. Friends can then comment and react to each other’s posts. The idea is to capture a candid moment in a user’s life to share without any preparation, makeup, filters, and other frivolities that make Instagram posts so fake....
Today Meta rolled out “Personal Boundaries” in Horizon Worlds and Horizon Venues for the Oculus Quest. The one by default feature creates a barrier extending about four feet around each avatar. It will simply stop the forward motion of any avatar that hits it, with no haptic feedback. The company says it introduced the personal bubbles—which it will tweak as needed—to help set social norms in VR. A previous feature already caused an avatar’s hand to disappear if it crossed someone’s personal space....
As can be expected, the company’s many cheerleaders and haters are out in full force. Pundits can and will pontificate on the new operating system’s chances. However, what might be more useful is looking at Microsoft’s other make or break moments. The upcoming launch is far from the first time that Redmond has fought with its back against a wall. A backward glance at these moments, and careful evaluation of them, may provide a better, ahem, window into the company’s chances this Winter....
In May, Microsoft announced its collection of customizable and attachable input devices to help those with disabilities easily make keyboard and mouse inputs. Six new PC accessibility adapters from Microsoft will be available on October 25. Pre-orders went live on the Microsoft store. The Microsoft Adaptive Mouse can work as a standard compact mouse, attach to the Mouse Tail for a more traditional shape, and use the Thumb Support for extra right-handed or left-handed comfort....
When running on integrated graphics, the A8-3850 and A6-3650 chugged considerably more power than the Core i3-2120 under load. However, this is justifiable when you consider the massive performance gains we saw when testing their on-die graphics cores earlier.
One of two major changes to the Moto G is the new 5.0-inch 720p LCD display, which increases the size of the smartphone and gives you more screen space to work with. While some people will prefer the older 4.5-inch display from a usability standpoint, I had no issues with it. Most importantly though, the quality of this display is the best in its class, producing vibrant and sharp images that wouldn’t look out of place on a higher-end handset....
The design of the third-gen Moto G is pretty similar to its predecessors, but the refined back panel gives the phone a more interesting look and feel. The customization options Motorola provides through Moto Maker are great for those who don’t want a plain black phone, and the addition of IPX7 water resistance helps make the new Moto G much tougher and more dependable than before. I was glad to see that Motorola finally decided to upgrade the SoC in the Moto G, moving from a Snapdragon 400 to Snapdragon 410....
