Scientific American reports that NASA is preparing to wind down the Voyager mission, which has endured for over ten times its original projected length. By powering down some instruments, engineers hope others can last into the 2030s. The Voyager 1 and Voyager 2 spacecraft launched in 1977 on a four-year mission to photograph Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune along with their moons. Approaching their 50th birthday, the probes still operate after traveling farther than any others....

Nikon’s latest is capable of recording 4K video at up to 30 frames per second or full HD (1,920 x 1,080 pixels) at up to 120 fps. Max video recording time is capped at 125 minutes but this could vary depending on your recording mode and remaining battery life. The Z30 packs dual stereo mics although those looking to up their audio game might want to consider optional outdoor wind muffs or an external microphone setup....

The Japan Times writes that Nintendo has been receiving praise from social media users for updating its customer service terms and conditions in October to include a new section on harassment by customers. The company’s Japanese arm has asked customers to refrain from using any actions that go beyond what is socially acceptable as a means of fulfilling a request. These include intimidation or threats insulting or denigrating remarks invasion of privacy excessive demands, such as for a free repair when the warranty has expired demanding an apology from Nintendo or its staff without reasonable cause excessively repeating the same request or complaint defamatory comments on social networks or websites...

On Wednesday, the studio dropped its 20th major content update focusing on freighters and frigates. No Man’s Sky update 3.94, titled Endurance, completely overhauls these capital ships in a way that will have players spending much more time on them. From new base-building tools to a dynamic crew, the game’s largest vessels are nothing like before. For those unfamiliar, freighters are large ships in No Man’s Sky primarily used to store star ships and explore the universe....

We managed to squeeze a little more out of the Palit GTS 450 Sonic Platinum. The card maxed out at 973MHz for the core and 2250MHz for the memory. That’s an amazing 190MHz core boost, overall increasing frequency by 24%. On average we saw a performance boost of 18% for this manual overclock. When testing with Far Cry 2 the overclocked GeForce GTS 450 performed on par with the Radeon HD 5850 showing how close the gap becomes in certain titles....

Next up we have the game that made Parkour cool, and not the other way around. Helping to keep up to speed and jumping over and underthings at maximum efficiency is the GTX 1080 Ti with a blistering fast 150 fps on average. Even at 1440p frame rates average over 100 fps, another nod for high refresh rate gamers. Even at the 4K resolution using the ultra quality preset the 1080 Ti averaged 57 fps making it 24% faster than the GTX 1080....

In contrast with AMD’s alternative, though, the GF100 supports 3D Vision Surround only when two or more GPUs are paired in an SLI configuration. The feature will be supported across three of the same 3D Vision capable LCDs or projectors at resolutions up to 1920x1080. For those not ready to jump into 3D gaming, Nvidia Surround will also be supported in non-stereoscopic 3D at resolutions up to 2560x1600 across displays that share a common resolution....

The results were a little unexpected, as the GeForce GTX 480 delivered results that were closer to the Radeon HD 5870 than we had previously seen. For the most part the GeForce GTX 480 was still faster, however when taking into consideration price, power consumption, and operating temperatures the Radeon HD 5870 simply makes more sense from a value perspective. The face off between the more affordable Radeon HD 5850 and GeForce GTX 470 was even more one sided, with ATI’s card delivering better performance, operating efficiency and much better bang for your buck in the games we tested....

According to 3DMark 11, the Gigabyte GeForce GTX 560 Ti is 6% slower than the Radeon HD 6870, which would be terrible news for Nvidia. Even worse the GTX 560 Ti is supposedly 6% slower than the GTX 470, the graphics card it’s meant to be replacing. Let’s move on to see how accurate these synthetic results truly are…

But one thing we didn’t focus on before was how the two RTX 4090 variants compare: the laptop part and the desktop part. We did mention the deceiving naming scheme, but in today’s review we’re going to look at just how significant the margin is between these GPUs – and why you might want to spend your hard earned cash on a desktop instead of a laptop this generation for gaming....

The RevoDrive 3 X2 was essentially four Vertex 3 SSDs forged together on a single PCB yet it was less than two times faster than a single Vertex 3 in our real-world tests. The same money could buy similar performance with a custom RAID0 setup using separate drives. Now three years later, OCZ is replacing its RevoDrive 3 X2 with the RevoDrive 350, touted as being the ultimate storage solution for intensive workstation applications....

The RevoDrive Hybrid delivers a modest 52.4MB/s in the first run, setting it 20% ahead of Seagate’s Momentus XT. Before you break out the party hats, that’s still 38% slower than the slowest SSD that we tested (the Patriot Torqx) and 67% slower that OCZ’s Vertex 3. By the third run, the performance increased 75% to 91.6MB/s. Sadly this is of little consequence as most people are only going to copy the same data once....

The Vertex 4 took an average of 9.3 seconds to load Windows 7, roughly equal to the SandForce SF-2281 drives as well as the Octane 512GB and Crucial m4 512GB. Its multitasking performance is also on par with other high-performance SSDs, taking just 4.9 seconds to complete this task, matching the 520 Series and HyperX 3K. The Vertex 4 took just 1.2 seconds to load Photoshop CS4, which matches the performance seen from other high-performance SSDs....

While artists and content creators are still debating about the capabilities and the outcome of images generated by machine learning algorithms, Shutterstock has decided to push the market forward thanks to a new partnership with OpenAI. The two companies have been working together for some time now, Shutterstock has revealed, and the partnership will bring new creative tools to the industry while supporting artists at the same time. The partnership is set to launch in the coming months, when the stock photography company dataset will integrate with AI image generation capabilities to let customers “instantly” generate images based on the specific criteria they set in their textual prompt....

OpenAI has always focused on artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning advances that benefit humanity. Recently, the company successfully trained a bot to play Minecraft using more than 70,000 hours of gameplay videos. The achievement is far more than just a bot playing a game. It marks a giant stride forward in advanced machine learning using observation and imitation. OpenAI’s bot is an excellent example of imitation learning (also called “supervised learning”) in action....

Microsoft and Qualcomm already have a strong partnership with respect to Windows on Arm. The Redmond giant integrated a custom Snapdragon chipset into the Surface Pro X, and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 850 powers its HoloLens 2 mixed-reality headset. According to Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon, over 200 enterprise customers have adopted Snapdragon-powered laptops so far. The two companies have announced plans to collaborate on developing custom augmented-reality chips to use in future lightweight and energy-efficient glasses that work within Microsoft’s ecosystem....

One of the key things to note with the Core i7-8550U is its configurable TDP, allowing manufacturers to choose a power limit anywhere from 10 to 25 watts depending on the cooling capabilities and battery requirements. The Razer Blade Stealth uses the default 15 watts here, which we also saw with the HP Spectre x360. However unlike the Spectre x360, the Blade Stealth actually has a reasonable cooler, so it can sustain higher clock speeds....
