When installing Red Orchestra 2 77 the WD Black 4GB took just 168 seconds, making it 6% faster than the WD Red 3TB and 11% faster than the WD RE 1TB. When compared to the Velociraptor 1TB it was 11% slower and 72% slower than the Samsung SSD. When it comes to virus scans the WD Black 4TB is pretty fast, taking just 58 seconds to complete a scan on the System32 folder using MSE....

However there are some situations where you can and will be running native code on the ARM chip, so it’s fair to benchmark that performance, too, and see how it stacks up to roughly the same apps running on Intel’s x86 CPUs natively. The most interesting of the tests here are the browser tests. Microsoft’s Edge browser runs natively on ARM and x86 processors, while Google Chrome is x86-only, and needs to be emulated on ARM processors....

Wolfenstein has been out for less than a week, so we have to assume ATI and Nvidia have had little time to perfect their drivers for it, or least we noticed, as we ran into a few problems and strange performance behaviors. Windows doesn’t make it easy to deal with duplicate files all by itself. While there are many options for accomplishing this sort of task with batch files or PowerShell scripts, we assume most people would prefer something that doesn’t involve a command prompt. Next up we have the Dawn of War III results and here the stock 4770K looks particularly weak, though again I should note that it only dipped to 59fps and was able to deliver smooth, perfectly playable performance. Overclocked it did look much more respectable and was not at least on par with the new Core i5-8400. Compared to the overclocked 4770K, the 8700K was 17% faster for the minimum result and 11% for the average....

Google is also good at creating the illusion of speed with prediction algorithms that preload parts of web pages that you are likely to visit. With a minimalistic design, you’ll feel at home with Chrome no matter what type of device you are using it on, and the built-in integration with other Google services and mobile browsing can be very convenient. Chrome’s advantages come at a cost however: the browser runs a separate process for every tab you open and every extension that you install....

When testing with Just Cause 2 we also saw a small variation in frame rates, which saw roughly 2fps separate the slowest and fastest boards. The Witcher 2 provided a 3fps difference between the fastest and slowest X79 boards at 1680x1050. The slower boards included the Gigabyte G1.Assasin 2 and MSI X79A-GD65(8D), while the Asrock X79 Extreme9 was again the fastest of the bunch.

Starting with the most affordable of the group, the Intel DX79SI ($280) offers a basic X79 platform to work with. The run-of-the-mill Realtek audio is used, there are four USB 3.0 ports, but Firewire is offered and users get a pair of quality Intel Ethernet controllers. Besides those highlights, everything else is standard and can be found on all other X79 motherboards. The DX79SI is a high quality board, performs well, offers low power consumption and operates at a reasonable temperature....

The Maya test also saw the six X79 boards deliver virtually the same result, as they were all capable of 14fps. The CINEBENCH R11.5 OpenGL results fluctuated between 53 and 55fps. The Intel DX79SI delivered the lowest result, while the Gigabyte G.1 Assassin 2 provided the highest followed by the Asus and ECS boards. When testing with the WinRAR in-built benchmark we found that the MSI X79A-GD65(8D) was the slowest of the X79 boards followed by the Intel DX79SI....

Kickstarting our game benchmarks is Ashes of the Benchmark itself, a favorite for testing CPU performance. Starting with high quality settings at 1080p using a GTX 1080 Ti we see that the 5820K is very respectable, roughly matching the highly clocked 7700K. That said, it was up to 16% slower than the 8700K. Overclocking helped close the gap and now it’s only the 1% low figure where the higher clocked 8700K holds an advantage....

Priced at just $120, there is no mistaking the ECS P55H-A for a high-end motherboard. It is nonetheless a worthy competitor and a welcomed addition to our roundup. As you might have already suspected with such a low price tag the vast majority of the features found on the P55H-A derive from the P55 chipset itself. In addition to the 6 SATA ports offered by the P55 chipset, there is just one other SATA port which is hosted by the JMicron JMB361 controller, and in this case is being used as an eSATA port....

Getty Images said in a statement that Stability AI unlawfully copied and processed millions of images protected by copyright “absent a license to benefit Stability AI’s commercial interests and to the detriment of the content creators.” Getty Images CEO Craig Peters told The Verge that the company had notified Stability AI of its upcoming litigation in the UK. There’s no word on whether a US case will follow. “The company [Stability AI] made no outreach to Getty Images to utilize our or our contributors’ material so we’re taking an action to protect our and our contributors’ intellectual property rights,” said Peters....

The project wasn’t without technical difficulties however, and it took AMD 5 years until the first Fusion APU saw the light of day. Based on the Lynx architecture, this first chip combined K10 CPU cores and a Radeon HD 6000 series GPU. Shortly after AMD would release APUs designed for desktop (Llano), mobile (Sabine), ultra-mobile and embedded (Brazos) platforms. All of these APUs and even current generation ones managed to fit a CPU and GPU into a single die, but still required a chipset to properly function....

We’ve already looked at how some of the more expensive B550 boards compare to the MSI B450 Tomahawk, so we thought it might be interesting and perhaps more relevant to see how the MSI B550M Pro-VDH Wi-Fi stacks up, as well as the B550-A Pro. The Radeon HD 6970 had an average showing on Far Cry 2 as it delivered just 15% more performance than the HD 5870 making it 18% slower than the HD 5970. More importantly it was ~6% slower than the GeForce GTX 570 and 22% slower than the GTX 580. Aliens vs. Predator We used the highly demanding DX11 benchmark from Alien vs. Predator playing through a test scene in the same sequence every time for accurate results....

We expected AMD to do better in Tomb Raider since they supported the title’s development, but the R9 290X was 12% slower than the GTX Titan and 3% slower than the GTX 780, though it exceeded the HD 7970 GHz Edition’s performance by 34%. Interestingly, despite weaker than expected results above, the card’s frame time performance in Tomb Raider is much more impressive, being 1% faster than GTX Titan, 3% faster than the GTX 780 and 51% quicker than the HD 7970 GHz Edition....
