Now you might be asking, why didn’t LG want you to review this monitor? The new LG Nitro HD represents the company’s premier Android smartphone in the United States. Without a doubt, it has a stellar spec sheet that includes 4G LTE data (AT&T), a 4.5-inch 720p HD resolution display, a dual-core 1.5GHz processor, and a 1080p HD video-capable 8 megapixel camera. It’s also fairly thin, light, and attractive. The Nitro HD should fear no other device when it comes to specifications. But when it comes to real world performance, not all of its specs live up to user expectations....

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 is an octa-core SoC with two quad-core Kryo 280 CPU clusters: one efficient cluster operating at 1.9 GHz, paired with a high-performance cluster at 2.45 GHz. The GPU is an Adreno 540 clocked up to 710 MHz, and there’s an LPDDR4X memory controller providing 29.8 GB/s of bandwidth. The V30 is one of a small handful of phones that supports the full capabilities of the Snapdragon X16 modem in the Snapdragon 835....

Before getting to the software you must first plug everything in. In our CPU performance tests, the Surface Book’s i7-6600U delivered small performance gains over the last generation i7-5600U. In Cinebench and our x264 encoding benchmark, these gains were around seven percent, although there was a performance reduction in WinRAR. CPU performance is still well behind Intel’s four-core mobile chips, but if you’re coming from a Core i5 Broadwell system like the XPS 13, expect gains of around 25% in video encoding....

Mozilla, Microsoft, and likely other browser makers have started to take action against TrustCor, a Certificate Authority (CA) issuing root certificates for billions of internet-connected devices. According to recent investigations and the company’s own words, TrustCor is working — or has worked — with another entity doing business in the spyware space. The potentially shady nature of TrustCor’s business emerged in a discussion on a Mozilla mailing list, where Joel Reardon, a professor at the University of Calgary, shared his findings about a spyware SDK hidden within some Android apps....

Russian developer Alexey Nicolaychuk has said MSI Afterburner is probably “dead.” A Russian programmer better known for creating the seminal RivaTuner hardware monitoring application, Nicolaychuk is the sole coder working on the tool, and he hasn’t received a single payment by Taiwanese hardware company MSI in a year. MSI Afterburner is a popular tool used to overclock and underclock the GPU (via undervolting), monitor hardware performance with its in-game overlay feature and record videos or take quick screenshots....

The efficiency of the Skylake-S Core i3-6100T is again on display, this time in Excel 2013. Here the MSI Cubi 2 Plus completed the MonteCarlo work load in just 10.2 seconds making it five times faster than the Asrock Beebox. The MSI Cubi 2 Plus again impressed with strong performance, this time in PowerPoint with a completion time of just 4.8 seconds. The AMD APUs delivered the best performance in the 7-zip test, though the MSI Cubi 2 Plus and it’s Core i3 processor weren’t far behind....

Ingenuity landed on Mars along with the Perseverance rover on February 18, 2021, and completed its first flight roughly two months later. NASA originally designed Ingenuity to fly up to five times during a 30-day test campaign, partially to determine if controlled flight of an aircraft on Mars was even possible. The helicopter soon proved it was more than capable of meeting NASA’s expectations, so more time was added to its proverbial clock....

Just last month, California announced it would be banning the sale of all new gasoline-powered vehicles in 2035. Finalizing that regulation actually paved the way for New York to do the same as federal regulations required the Golden State be first to do so. New York is taking a staggered approach to help reach its goal. The state will require that 35 percent of all new light-duty vehicle sales be zero-emission vehicles by model year 2026....

Nintendo sold 6.68 million Switch consoles in the first half of the fiscal year, which is down 19.2 percent compared to the same period year over year. Component shortages no doubt played a role in declining sales, but other factors like economic uncertainty and the fact that the Switch is approaching its sixth anniversary must also be considered. Nintendo launched an updated version of its handheld with a larger OLED screen last year that has been selling well but some are still holding out for the possibility of a more powerful variant in the future....

The particular SoC used in the Lumia 735 is the MSM8926, a 1.2 GHz quad-core variant using ARM Cortex-A7 CPU cores and the Adreno 305 GPU clocked at 450 MHz. The very same SoC is used in the LTE variant of the Motorola Moto G, the HTC One Mini 2 and Nokia’s very own Lumia 830. The 3G-only version of this chip is used in the new Moto G that I reviewed recently as well, so it’s a popular family of chips....

The GTX 1060 allowed for a maximum total system power consumption of 197 watts after 30 minutes of gameplay in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. That was 12% less than what we saw from the RX 480 and a 22% improvement over the GTX 980. This time the total system power consumption dropped by 17% when using the GTX 1060 compared to the RX 480 in Call of Duty Black Ops III....

Based on the Fermi third-generation Streaming Multiprocessor (SM) architecture, the GeForce GTX 480 boasts 480 CUDA cores, which is twice the shader power of the GT200 architecture used by the GeForce GTX 280/285. Not only has the number of cores doubled, but so have the number of ROP (Raster Operations) units with 48 in total. 8x MSAA performance has been optimized through enhanced ROP compression and texture units are also said to have been redesigned for improved efficiency and better real-world performance....

The GeForce GTX 590 handled Dirt 2 at 2560x1600 with ease, delivering an average of 114fps or 23% faster than the Radeon HD 6990, 97% faster than the HD 6970, and 58% faster than last-gen’s HD 5970. Compared to the GeForce GTX 580, the GTX 590 was just 52% faster, indicating that a GTX 580 SLI configuration would be far quicker. F1 2010 F1 2010 has a great built-in benchmark tool that was added during the first patch....

As reported by VideoCardz, prolific Twitter leaker Kopite7kimi claims that they have “confirmed” Nvidia will be taking a different approach to Ada Lovelace’s release sequence compared to Ampere. With the current generation of cards, the RTX 3080 arrived first, on September 17, 2020, followed by the RTX 3090 on September 24, then the RTX 3070 on October 29. Kopite7kimi claims that with Lovelace, Nvidia will release in reverse order of power (and expense): RTX 4090 first, followed by the RTX 4080 and the RTX 4070....
