The main problem with the X34P out of the box is white balance: by default, the monitor is too warm, with a white point around 6000K and an average of 6185K. This screws with grayscale performance as you can see, with a deltaE average of 4.68 and gamma that’s completely wrong. On the other hand, the X34 is nearly accurate by default, with a much better CCT average that leads to a sub-1....

The RSOCKS botnet originally targeted IoT devices such as industrial control systems, clocks, streaming devices, etc. As the botnet grew, it expanded to include standard desktop, laptop, and Android-based devices. IPs from these devices were collected, stored, and sold to any hacker willing to pay the asking price via a Web-based storefront. Using this storefront, RSOCKS hackers were charged anywhere from $30 on the low end to $200 per day for access to 2,000 to 90,000 proxies, respectively....

In November, Intel released a list of games that wouldn’t work with its new Alder Lake chips. The issues stemmed from Digital Rights Management software (Denuvo) conflicts. It seems the DRM software was incorrectly recognizing Alder Lake’s Efficient cores (E-cores) as another system. This prevented games from launching, caused crashes during gameplay, or shut them down unexpectedly. Intel placed 90 titles on the list of impacted games, which included Assassin’s Creed Valhalla....
The most recent rumors point to a March 29 launch date for the RTX 3090 Ti, with sales expected to start on the same day. However, those same murmurs suggest the MSRP will hover around $1,999, which is $500 above the suggested price of the regular RTX 3090. Retail GPU pricing has been improving as of late, so there’s hope that at least some gamers will be able to afford one....
The WinRAR compression time was greatly improved when increasing the AMD A8-3850’s memory frequency. The 700MB file compression test was completed 13% faster when using DDR3-1866 memory opposed to 1333MHz memory. This made it a fraction quicker than the Athlon II X4 640, but it was still a long way behind Intel’s quad-core processors. The A8-3850 was on par with the Athlon II X4 640 in Photoshop CS5, which unfortunately made it 13% slower than the Core i5 655K....
Jumping to this month’s update, Kaveri’s processor brings bigger changes that result in a welcomed efficiency boost. Despite being clocked 16% slower than the A10-6800K, the A8-7600 was often less than 10% slower. This improvement is particularly noteworthy when you look at consumption figures, with the A8-7600 using 78% less power than the A10-6800K at idle and 51% less under full load – on par with the Core i5-4430....
First up, the R9 290X was tested at three resolutions using four processors and the GTX 780 was thrown in for comparison using the Core i3-4130 and A8-7600. Using DirectX 11 instead of Mantle, the R9 290X was limited to 34fps at 2560x1600 which was achieved when using the FX-8350, Core i7-4770 and Core i3-4130 processors. The A8-7600 was just a fraction slower at 33fps. With Mantle enabled, the frame rate at 2560x1600 was increased to 37fps when using the R9 290X with the Core i7-4770 and 36fps with the other three processors....
The Crossfired HD 7770s fared pretty well in Skyrim, edging ahead of the HD 6870 by 54% and GTX 560 Ti by 47%. The HD 7750s were also 20% and 14% faster than the HD 6870 and GTX 560 Ti, pumping 49fps at 1920x1200. Both Crossfire Radeon setups delivered a satisfactory showing in The Witcher 2, providing 91% and 81% more performance over their single-card configurations and outpacing the HD 6870 and GTX 560 Ti....
Unfortunately for consumers, AMD plans to charge quite handsomely for the HD 7970’s pixel-crunching prowess. When it replaced the HD 5870, the 6970 delivered 24% more performance and it only cost ~10% extra. At $549, however, the HD 7970 is priced 60% higher than the HD 6970 despite offering “only” 42% more speed. Naturally, that means the HD 7970 doesn’t provide gamers with the same value as the 6970 – yet, anyway....
I must admit I had to rub my eyes a few times when I first saw the peak power consumption result in BioShock. However, after re-testing a few more times it became clear that the R9 Fury X was only consuming slightly more power than the R9 290X and R9 390X despite the massive increase in SPUs. The BioShock results were confirmed by Metro: Last Light as we again see the Fury X consuming a similar level of power to the R9 390X....
Time for the games, first up we have Battlefield 1 there are four graphs to discuss here. Starting with the GTX 1080 Ti’s results arranged by the average frame rate, the 1400 comes in second to the 7350K, both out of the box and once overclocked. It was also a good bit slower than the Core i5-7400, at least before overclocking. However, after rearranging the graph by the all important minimum or 0....
Overclocked, those times fell and the 2700X was able to remain ahead of the 8700K, if only just. Again, the 2600X ran a boring race, it was well ahead of the overclocked 8600K but well behind the overclocked 1800X. As expected, SMT is still significantly more efficient for decompression work opposed to compression. This means while the 2700X was 12% faster than the 7820X when extracting files, it was 17% slower when archiving them....
One of the most refreshing things about the AG251FZ is its design. Having just used the over-the-top Asus ROG PG258Q, the lack of gamer elements in the AG251FZ’s design is welcome, and makes this monitor look much more attractive when sitting on your desk. The wide silver stand with a pillar display mount still makes this monitor reasonably large, however I appreciate its pleasant and understated looks. The AG251FZ includes a ton of positional flexibility in its stand, thanks to its support for height, tilt, pivot and swivel adjustments....
According to Nikkei, Sony Semiconductor Solutions’ new image sensor nearly doubles the saturation signal level of each pixel. This allows the sensor to capture more light and reduce the chances of underexposure or overexposure in scenes with strong contrasting lighting. For example, it could better expose a person’s face when they are standing in front of a bright background. The publication said Sony achieved the breakthrough by leveraging a new semiconductor architecture that puts transistors and photodiodes in separate substrate layers, thus allowing for more photodiodes on its dedicated layer....

Fortunately the system is lean on bloatware. I only had to uninstall a few programs instead of over a dozen like we’ve seen from other manufacturers.
