During a quarterly earnings call this week, Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon said the development of its upcoming Arm-based notebook CPU, which Nuvia is designing, is on track. However, he also said Qualcomm expects it to arrive in late 2023, over a year after its previously disclosed release window. Qualcomm bought Nuvia in March 2021 to get ahead in the laptop CPU market, specifically to catch up to Apple’s M-series processors....
In the tech business, sometimes it takes a few generations to really get things right. That’s particularly true in the semiconductor industry, where multi-year development cycles often mean that parts originally intended for one purpose or device get used in a different application. Right behind Ratchet & Clank and its nine nominations is Deathloop with eight (Deathloop led nominations at last year’s Game Awards). Ratchet & Clank was also revealed this week to be one of the PlayStation 5’s most downloaded games in North America in 2021. Inscryption and It Takes Two tied for third with six nominations each (It Takes Two won game of the year at the Game Awards). Returnal got five nominations, while Kena: Bridge of Spirits and Resident Evil Village tied for fifth with four each....
Base level models of this laptop come with a 12.5-inch 2560 x 1440 display at 234 PPI, upgradable to a 4K display at 352 PPI for a few hundred dollars. Both displays use IGZO-TFT LCD technology and all models, whether 1440p or 4K, come with a touchscreen except the most affordable base unit. It’s great to see Razer chucking high resolution displays into all Blade Stealth models. At this size and price point you’d typically receive a 1080p display, which is adequate but not exactly class-leading....
I personally made the switch from a triple monitor (1080p) configuration to a single 40-inch 4K television in 2016 and haven’t looked back. Later on I wrote an article on the switch, the implications, and what kind of monitor you should choose if you want a 4K TV to effectively work as a monitor. The extra resolution afforded by the Samsung UN40KU6300 I chose at the time was welcomed with open arms and gaining back valuable real estate on my desk has been liberating....

Rumors that Google is working on a foldable Pixel have been around for years—the company itself said it was working on prototypes back in 2019. An internal Google document suggested the folding Pixel would launch in 2021, but a report from November confirmed that the tech giant was instead targeting the second half of this year for a release date. Earlier this month, we finally learned what appears to be the foldable’s official name: the Pixel Notepad....

Polygon writes that in the premiere of Hulu’s reality television series, which aired on April 14, Kim Kardashian’s son, Saint West, is seen running to his mother while holding his iPad and laughing. It seems he had stumbled across a Roblox ad that featured Kardashian’s crying face. The advertised game claimed to have a ’new sex tape’ featuring unseen footage from Kim Kardashian’s 2007 sex tape. We then see Kardashian calling ex-husband Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, to explain what had happened....
But before the sanctions were handed down, Baikal received several prototypes of its latest (and perhaps last) SoC from TSMC. Somehow, some of them have ended up in the hands of a Russian enthusiast who’s shared them with Fritchens Fritz, a tremendously talented chip photographer. Fritzchens Fritz wields his infrared microscope on both Twitter and Flickr. This monstrous system on a chip is the BE-S1000. It was designed for server applications and has 48 Arm Cortex-A75 cores....
President Vladimir Putin opened Russia’s “Army 2022” arms expo, which runs until August 22 at the Patriot Park in Kubinka, just outside Moscow. Among the many military weapons, vehicles, and other accessories on show was the M-81, a canine-like quadrupedal robot resembling Boston Dynamics’ famous Spot, except it carries an RPG-26 on its back and is dressed in a ninja-yoroi. Russian news agency RIA Novosti posted a video of the M-81 scuttling about and lying down at the expo, which would have been quite cute were it not hauling around a weapon of mass destruction....
Moving on we have Far Cry Primal which might seem like an odd choice given that it isn’t a well optimized game for high core count CPUs, but it often delivers interesting results so I thought it was worth a look. Here we see when using the DDR4-2666 memory, the 7820X is 13% slower than the 6900K, but 8% faster than the R7 1700, at least when looking at the average frame rate performance....
Starting with memory bandwidth performance we see that the 2400G and 2200G are very similar to the original Ryzen 3 and Ryzen 5, which was to be expected and should provide the integrated Vega GPU with enough bandwidth to deliver decent performance, but we’ll look at that shortly. Next up we have some Cinebench R15 results and here the new Raven Ridge APUs look very good, narrowly beating the X versions of their own product likes....
Please note that all overclocking was done with the stock box cooler and these results include just GPU overclocking, not the CPU. I don’t believe you’ll be able to overclock both the CPU and GPU with the box cooler but that’s not a big deal as the biggest gains will come from GPU overclocking. By default, the 2200G runs its Vega cores at 1.1GHz and the 2400G at 1.25GHz, both have been pushed to 1....
The camera on the Samsung Galaxy Note is the same 8 megapixel unit with 1080p video capture as found on the Galaxy S II and that’s certainly not a bad thing at all. Autofocus is rapid and there are plenty of controls easily accessible to tune your photos. The Note’s massive screen offers what is likely the largest viewfinder on any digital camera this side of a true tablet, but the phone’s big size can make it hard to hold steady for sharp images in less-than-stellar lighting....
The battery capacity of the Galaxy S5 is only a slight (9%) increase on the Galaxy S4, indicating Samsung aren’t trying to push for longer battery life, but to cover the extra power requirements of some of the new components such as the larger display. Due to improvements on Qualcomm’s side, the Snapdragon 801 should actually be more power efficient than the Snapdragon 600 despite an increase in performance, so there’s the possibility we might see better battery life....
The design is something straight out of the future. The Galaxy S8+ uses premium materials with a seamless construction across the board, and that massive near bezel-free display is truly something to behold. Samsung knew they were onto something big with their new screen setup, and what they’ve produced here will shame every phone manufacturer in 2017 that doesn’t follow a similar path. The downside to this sort of design is its extreme fragility....
Samsung’s new Galaxy Book2 series laptops will follow some trends of its predecessors, such as the FHD AMOLED displays, thin and light designs (up to 1.55Kg/3.4lbs), and a decent variety of models. Still, new things are under their hood, including Intel 12th Gen Core i3/5/7 P-series processors, Windows 11, authentication via fingerprint on power key, and a new generation of graphics cards, including Intel Arc mobile GPUs. Available in silver, burgundy, and graphite, the Galaxy Book2 Pro 360 is a 2-in-1 laptop that comes in 13....
The Red Orchestra 2 game installation took 94 seconds using the SSD 850 Evo 500GB, just 4 seconds slower than the 850 Pro and 3 seconds faster than the 840 Evo. This is also the same time we received when testing the competing Crucial MX100. When it comes to virus scanning the Samsung SSD 850 Evo was 5 seconds slower than the 850 Pro and just 2 seconds faster than the 840 Evo....
