Bloomberg reports that Tesla hired thermal engineer Alexander Yatskov in January to help design cooling systems for its in-house supercomputer, dubbed Project Dojo. It’s designed to process the vast amounts of data gathered from the company’s vehicles, which is used to train the self-driving AI software. According to a filing in the U.S. District Court in San Jose, Yatskov admitted to downloading confidential information from his Tesla devices to his personal devices....

For now it appears SSDs will continue to get faster, but in terms of pricing they’re still far from becoming mainstream. The good news is that the introduction of new SATA 6Gb/s drives will surely help to push down the price of older, yet still speedy models. With an investment of just over $100 you can already jump in with a small boot drive and notice a huge performance improvement relative to a traditional hard drive....

The R7 360 really struggled in Watch Dogs and with an average of just 29fps it was 12% slower than the GTX 750 Ti. The R7 370 performed better though it was still 2% slower than the GTX 950 (just a 1fps difference here). The R9 380 was again able to outpace the GTX 960 by a small 5% margin at 1080p. The R9 390 was only 3% faster than the GTX 970 which worked out to be a 2fps advantage....

It also looks like every case of decent quality has a side panel of tempered glass, which means no side vents for your M.2 drives to get direct airflow, or even a physical hazard if you often carry your PC with you. Sound This is a great sounding headset for music and games. Bass was adequate and details were richly present. Where Astro included only three predefined audio profiles, SteelSeries packed a customizable 5-band equalizer. This allows owners to dial in the sound they like. Out of the box though, I subjectively felt the A50 sounded better for most situations. Choosing a favorite based on sound quality alone really comes down tonal preferences....

Third-party platform 0patch has released its second fix for a local privilege escalation vulnerability after Microsoft’s latest attempt at mitigation broke the group’s first patch. The latest version works for the March 2022 editions of Windows 10 v21H1, v20H2, v1909, and Windows Server 2019. Downloading it requires a free account at 0patch’s website. The whole debacle started last August when security researcher Abdelhamid Naceri discovered a vulnerability (CVE-2021-34484) that gives attackers administrator-level privileges....

Not only does Tomb Raider look amazing, but it’s well adapted for life on the PC, offering an intuitive menu, highly customizable settings and built-in benchmark capabilities. Given the level of visual detail we saw relative to the performance we recorded, we also believe the game is very well optimized. That said, Nvidia has plenty of work to do on its drivers and AMD’s new TressFX tech seems overly intensive....

TSMC Chairman Mark Liu said demand for smartphones, PCs and televisions is waning, especially in China. Part of the problem is the fact that costs for components and materials are on the rise due to supply chain issues, pushing up production costs in the process. “Such pressure could eventually be passed on to consumers,” Liu noted. It’s not all doom and gloom, however, as Liu said TSMC continues to see robust demand for high-performance computing components, Internet of Things devices and components for the automotive industry....
