While we don’t expect anyone is going to purchase the Liva to carry out HD encoding, we were interested to see how it performed. Surprisingly, the system matched AMD’s A4-4000 while it was 3fps slower than the Celeron J1800. With 31.3fps the was able to convert the 720p file slightly faster than typical playback.
ECS’ box struggled with the x264 HD Benchmark, delivering just 8.7fps in the second pass test and 1.5fps in the first pass test.
Our 1080p conversion took almost half an hour when using the Liva, as opposed to 20 minutes with the AMD Athlon 5150.
