Dead Island: Riptide
Although publisher Deep Silver has noted that Riptide is more of a spinoff than a sequel of 2011’s Dead Island, you’ll still be able to import your old stats and pick up where you left off with any of the four original characters. As with the first entry, Riptide will take place on the fictional island of Banoi – albeit a different section – and will bring new levels, vehicles, weather conditions, defense mechanics, weapon proficiencies, multiplayer functionality as well as one fresh playable character, US Navy veteran and hand-to-hand combat expert John Morgan.
Dead Space 3
The third entry to Visceral Games’ Dead Space series will follow recurring protagonist Isaac Clarke and newcomer John Carver as they scour the frozen planet of Tau Volantis for the source of the Markers, mysterious stone objects that cause the living to go insane and the dead to reanimate. In addition to drop-in/drop-out co-op, Dead Space 3 will introduce several new gameplay mechanics, such as the ability to roll for more responsive control and an organic, automatic cover system that doesn’t require you to press a button to duck behind something.
DmC Devil May Cry
Despite being unveiled to largely negative feedback in 2010, Capcom and Ninja Theory’s DmC reboot has earned favorable reviews among critics for being a competent reimagining that offers gorgeous 60fps visuals, a fun story and a fluid, layered combat system that lets you dispatch demonic foes in a gratifyingly bombastic fashion. Some reviewers note that Devil May Cry purists might not have gotten what they wanted (hence the terrible Metacritic user scores), but DmC’s high-flying action should satisfy most hack and slash/beat ’em up fans.
Double Fine Adventure
Codenamed “Reds,” the so-called Double Fine Adventure vows to deliver an epic single player adventure headed by point-and-click mastermind Tim Schafer of old school hits such as The Secret of Monkey Island and Grim Fandango. Besides morsels about the game’s design shared in the ongoing development documentaries by 2 Player Productions (first one embedded), details remain largely veiled. The title is being created with the open source Moai engine and its story will involve two elements: a boy in a sci-fi world and a girl in a fantasy world.
Dragon Age III: Inquisition
Learning from the successes and failures of its first two titles, BioWare is working to provide more customization, deeper interaction, more strategic party-based combat, better graphics courtesy of a new game engine and a bigger world with one level being larger than all of DAII’s levels. The story will unfold in a fresh territory of Thedas called Orlais and follows new protagonist (though your old characters may appear as NPCs) who’s tasked with solving a war between the mages and the templars – the latter of which has split from the Chantry.
