Microsoft partnered with HowLongToBeat, a community-driven website specializing in game lengths, to implement the new PC Game Pass feature. Just select a game on the service, and you’ll see how much of your life it’ll take up in the Details section. There are four estimated times in the listing. Main Story is for those few people who like to blast through the primary campaign/story without doing anything else, so this style will take the least time....

Last Thursday, a security update for the UpdraftPlus plugin for WordPress sites went out to address a critical vulnerability. The developers thought the flaw was urgent enough to warrant a forced update. UpdraftPlus is used to make downloading and restoring backups of WordPress sites simple. Developers at JetPack, during an internal audit of UpdraftPlus, found a vulnerability in a missing permissions check that could allow unauthorized users access to those backups....

On Monday, Devolver Digital dropped a trailer for a new Ron Gilbert game titled Return to Monkey Island. It is somewhat of a do-over of the third game, The Curse of Monkey Island (more on that after the trailer). The game is due out sometime later this year. When he was with LucasArts, Gilbert developed the first two games — The Secret of Monkey Island and Monkey Island 2: LeChuck’s Revenge....

The rear camera in the Moto X Style is a Sony Exmor RS IMX230 1/2.4" 21-megapixel CMOS sensor with 1.12 µm pixels, paired with an f/2.0 28mm lens and a dual-tone dual-LED flash. There’s no optical image stabilization in this camera, but it does capture 5344 x 4008 images in a native 4:3 aspect ratio as well as 4K 16:9 video. On the front is a 5-megapixel camera with an f/2....

The Laser Mouse 7000 is a 2.4 GHz wireless pointer that features an ergonomic design and very clean lines. The unit is solid black with chrome accents lining the edges. In addition to the standard right and left click buttons, there is a clickable scroll wheel that tilts side-to-side, and two thumb buttons on the left side. There’s also a battery status indicator light below the scroll wheel that illuminates red when the mouse is running low on power....

Perhaps the biggest problem we saw with these motherboards was their price, both situated above $250, they were far from affordable. Add to that the serious price premium for DDR3 memory, and you ended up with a relatively affordable and fast Core i7 920 processor that nevertheless needed to run on an expensive platform. Today DDR3 prices have dropped dramatically. It is now possible to purchase a 3GB triple-channel kit for as little as $50, or a 6GB kit that start at around $80....

Speaking at an investors’ day yesterday (via PCMag), Nvidia SVP Jeff Fisher said, “Looking into the millions of desktop GeForce gamers who we know have upgraded their GPU to a 30-series, they are buying up.” “The GPU is offering more value than ever. Based on our data, they are spending $300 more than they paid for the graphics card they replaced,” he added. A recent report showed that graphics cards in Europe had reached their lowest prices since the start of 2021, and the average selling point of GPUs on eBay fell by another 10% between February and March....

Total War: Warhammer is a game that I feel really should be played using the DX12 API regardless of whether you are running AMD or Nvidia hardware. Like Ashes of the Singularity during battles when there are masses of units on screen the CPU takes a good old pounding using DX11. Anyway even on DX12 the GTX 1080 Ti is still mighty fast pushing over 100fps at all times, at 1080p....

The RTX 2060 GPU used in laptops uses the same TU106 GPU as the desktop card, with the same core configuration. That means you get 1920 CUDA cores, 240 Tensor cores and 30 RT cores. It also has the same memory configuration: 6GB of GDDR6 at 14 Gbps on a 192-bit bus for 336 GB/s of bandwidth. It’s still built on TSMC’s 12nm process, too. However the laptop RTX 2060 isn’t clocked anywhere near what the desktop card can achieve....

Today we can finally show you how the GeForce RTX 3080 performs and you can of course expect a boatload of benchmark data in this review. There’s plenty of architectural information we could go over and we could also explore the Founders Edition card’s design, but both of those things easily warrant a dedicated article. Right now it’s clear most of you will want the benchmark data first, so we’ll cover the hardware basics and then jump into the results....

The RTX 3080 was a truly exciting product, offering 20% better performance over the much more expensive RTX 2080 Ti ($700 vs $1200). Although many were lucky enough to grab one, it was always hard to get, and once the cryptomining boom hit again, tracking one down at the MSRP has been virtually impossible. Over the course of the following weeks and months we’ve also received the fully unlocked version of the GA102 silicon called the RTX 3090 (which costs a cool $1500 MSRP) – though that one never made much sense for gamers – the RTX 3070, which is based on a nearly 40% smaller GA104 die, meaning it’s possible for Nvidia to get more of these dies out of a wafer....

Nvidia writes in its post that the first AAA game to receive DLSS 3.0 support will be Microsoft Flight Simulator on October 17. The sim is one of the most demanding titles you can play today. According to Nvidia’s figures, even the mighty RTX 4090 can ‘only’ manage 74.7 fps@4K with max settings, but that number more than doubles to 152.7 fps with DLSS 3.0 (all tests are carried out in performance mode)....

Nvidia’s latest Game Ready Driver package claims to provide the best possible gaming experience for all major new releases. The package’s release notes also state that the release is Windows Hardware Quality Labs (WHQL) certified, which is typically a sign that a driver package has successfully passed Microsoft’s software testing suite and is ready for widespread release. Despite the claim and certification, the latest driver package appears to cause several Modern Warfare 2 PC issues....

This workload uses a trace of importing an image collection of 68 images (434MB) from a USB stick to Windows Live Photo Gallery. Recording activity on the system drive started at the start of importing pictures and lasted until thumbnail images appeared on the display. During the trace Windows Live Photo Gallery copied images from USB stick to Pictures library, indexed them and created thumbnails. The RevoDrive 350 doesn’t really improve greatly on the other SSDs in this test hitting 33....

Application performance was much the same as the RevoDrive Hybrid defeated the Momentus XT in some tests and lost in others. Although game level load times might continue to improve as you play, it’s hard to be excited about performance gains that you’ll likely never see. How often do you load the same level multiple times back to back? Likewise when loading Windows 7 and Adobe Photoshop or most other real world situations: it’s all about the first load....

General typing and button pressing takes a hair more force than I am used to with my Logitech G15. This could easily be accredited to the fact that it is brand new and I have owned the G15 for a few years, so odds are the keys will loosen a touch over time. I also noticed the keys are a bit more audible than the G15. The Sabre keys are clickier and have a slight thud as each key is depressed whereas the G15 seems to have a slightly lighter overall tone....

The dialogue and plotline are good, and the game doesn’t take itself too seriously, adding to the entertainment value greatly. The remaster adds gorgeous high-definition art, while leaving the gameplay and dialogue untouched. There’s even an option to ‘go retro’, allowing a player to switch the graphics back to their original state. Planescape: Torment Planescape follows the journey of the ‘Nameless One’, an immortal with amnesia, looking to recover memories of his past....
