The Nürburgring racetrack has been home to decades of vehicle testing and benchmarking, and a place where automakers continue to push the limits of ICE and EV models for bragging rights. The latest feat has been accomplished by Porsche, whose Taycan Turbo S four-door posted the fastest lap time for a production EV yet. The Taycan’s completion time of 07:33.350 min is just over two seconds quicker than its main rival, the Model S Plaid....

On Monday, developer Slightly Mad Studios revealed that it would remove Project Cars and Project Cars 2 from digital storefronts this fall due to expiring car and track licenses. It will first delist the second game on September 21, then the original on October 3. After the removal, players who own either racing simulator will keep all content and functionality, including multiplayer, for the foreseeable future. Likely due to the impending removal, both games are currently available at sizeable discounts on PC....

Playing in clear conditions at 4K UHD allowed the GeForce GTX Titan X to deliver playable performance as it managed 62fps on average. The GTX 980 was considerably slower with 47fps, while the GTX 780 Ti averaged just 37fps. The Radeon R9 290X did match the GTX Titan’s average of 35fps, though the minimum dipped to 25fps. Even the GeForce GTX Titan X dropped to just 41fps on average with rainy conditions at 2160p....

These prices admittedly aren’t cheap, but looking at the competition we find that Synology’s 12-bay DS2415+ retails for a little over $1,300 and that particular model is vastly inferior in terms of features, while other companies have nothing that can go toe to toe with the TS-1635. Compared to the DS2415+ for example, the TS-1635 has the advantage of supporting four additional 2.5" drives (SSD cache drives would be a particularly nice option here), not to mention the bonus of two 10GbE SFP+ ports as well as two Gigabit Ethernet ports and if that weren’t enough there is room to expand networking further with a PCIe Gen2 x2 slot....

In terms of performance, the TS-809 Pro Turbo didn’t just meet our expectations, it crushed them. The throughput was incredible and its sustained transfer speeds of over 100MB/s meant this device is in a class of its own, even when compared to Synology’s highest performance SOHO NAS devices like the DS409+. With a starting price of $1,700 it’s obvious the TS-809 Pro Turbo is not intended for home users, at least not any with standard kind of needs....

Blade Runner: Enhanced Edition launches today on Steam, Xbox consoles, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch for $10. It refreshes Westwood’s 25-year-old point n’ click adventure game with 4K upscaled videos, an enhanced HD user interface, improved subtitles, better anti-aliasing, and controller support. Nightdive announced the remaster project in 2020 but delayed it indefinitely the same year. The developer had trouble finding the game’s source code, which disappeared after Electronic Arts acquired Westwood in 1998....

AMD recently announced that it will release its Threadripper Pro 5000 lineup for DIY consumers later this year, after being an OEM exclusive for months. A Chinese computer hardware retailer seems to have jumped the gun, as they reportedly started selling the workstation CPUs to consumers already. The flagship 64-core 5995WX costs 47,000 CNY ($7,025), the 32-core 5975WX comes in at 24,000 CNY ($3,587), while the 24-core 5965WX retails for 17,200 CNY ($2,570)....

Cinebench is one of the strongest results for the Ryzen 5 2500U. In the multi-threaded test, the CPU was just slightly slower than the Core i7-8550U, and let’s not forget the i7-8550U is a higher-tier product than the Ryzen 5 2500U. The Ryzen 7 2700U is clocked 5 to 10 percent higher, and no doubt would beat the i7-8550U in this test. If you’ve been following Ryzen desktop coverage, the single-threaded result won’t surprise you: the i7-8550U is a good 17 percent faster here....

The extraordinary write throughput we saw in synthetic benchmarks became apparent in the all-important real-life tests. The Samsung 470 Series 256GB set new records in the file transfer ISO, program and game tests. Then when measuring application load times the Samsung 470 Series 256GB continued to impress. The Windows 7 boot time and the StarCraft II level load time results were inspiring. In the synthetic benchmark phase the Samsung 470 Series 256GB displayed strong performance for the most part, though one glaring weakness did appear....

Compared to the Galaxy S5, Samsung has decreased the battery capacity in the Galaxy S6 by 9%, and in the S6 Edge by 7%. The company is betting that a more efficient SoC, produced on a 14nm manufacturing node as opposed to 28nm, as well as improvements to display technology, will keep the battery life of the Galaxy S6 close to the Galaxy S5. It’s also worth mentioning that the Galaxy S6 includes a range of new charging options that, at least partially, help to offset the reduction in battery capacity....

In our single large file copy test the Samsung SSD 950 Pro 512GB delivered a mouth-watering 761MB/s, slightly faster than the SM951, 16% faster than the Intel SSD 750 Series and more than twice as fast as the 850 Pro. For whatever reason the 950 Pro falters in our program copy test with a throughput of just 334MB/s and although this meant that it was still 28% faster than the 850 Pro, it was surprisingly 43% slower than the SM951....

The 960 Pro 1TB hit a breathtaking 2.76GB/s in the AS SSD Benchmark sequential read test, topping the 950 Pro by a margin of 25%. The 960 Pro was even more impressive in the sequential write test with a throughput of 2GB/s. This meant it was 42% faster than the 950 Pro. Again, we find that the 960 Pro series is over 40% faster than the 950 Pro with a 4K-64 Thread throughput of 1579MB/s....

In a second vote to determine whether officers can use lethal force with remote-controlled robots, the San Francisco Board of Supervisors effectively struck down the regulation in an 8-3 vote approving a ban on using robots lethally. The board must approve law enforcement rule changes twice before sending them to the mayor’s office for final approval. The San Francisco Chronicle notes that the secondary vote is often considered a formality since it is highly unusual for the board to flip its initial decision....

There are also two 3-pin fan power connectors hooked up to a basic fan speed controller that lets you set the 180mm intake fans to low, medium or high. However, the fan controller is not powered, so each fan must still be plugged into the motherboard. The expansion card bay, motherboard I/O panel and power supply mounting bracket are all offset into the Raven 5. Silverstone had to do this so that the various power and data cables have enough room to fit under the case lid where they will travel under a handle at the rear....

Being the sticklers we are, we typically look at 60fps as the ideal figure for smooth gameplay, but we think you can comfortably play SimCity at 30fps, so just about every card we tested – including the dated HD 6750 – should suffice if you’re willing to play on medium quality at 1680x1050. That said, we’d still aim for the 40fps mark or so, for a little padding, and that still only requires something in the ballpark of an HD 5870 or the GTX 660....

PlayStation Studios head Hermen Hulst said on Tuesday that Sony plans to release PC ports of its single-player games at least a year after launching them on PlayStation consoles. Online-oriented live-service games, however, may launch on PlayStation and PC simultaneously. The comments, made in an interview with YouTuber Julien Chièze, track with how Sony has handled PC ports so far. God of War and Spider-Man initially came to the PlayStation 4 in 2018 and arrived on PC this year....

According to the map, Starlink service is available in large portions of Europe, North America, New Zealand and the lower half of Australia. Other regions including Africa, Greenland and much of South America are expected to see availability beginning in 2023. Earlier this year, Starlink announced a price increase that it said was necessary in order to keep up with rising inflation. With the hike, a Starlink starter kit will now set buyers back $599 before shipping and tax....

It was back in February when Street Fighter 6 was first announced. But while it brought plenty of excitement among fans of the long-running fighting series, the reveal also showed what was potentially one of the worst logos of all time. The simple, black and white hexagonal shape containing the SF initials was a far cry from the previous games’ combination of the Street Fighter name and roman numerals. What was even more shocking about the old logo is it looked almost identical to an $80 stock logo on Adobe’s stock images site (below right), albeit with some very minor changes....

The DS410j has the same size footprint as the DS409 at 230mm long, 168mm wide and 184mm tall. When empty it weighs just 2.23kg, though it will become considerably heavier once four hard drives are installed. The front of the device looks neat and simple. There’s a large circular power button in the middle which lights up blue when active. Then to the left of this button are two green indicators labeled Status and LAN, while four more sit on the right labeled accordingly after each hard drive – HDD1, HDD2, HDD3 and HDD4....

As was the case in the single large file upload (write) and download (read) tests, we find that when measuring sequential read/write performance the DS216+ is limited by the Gigabit network connection. Here we see that the DS216+ while providing strong results, is noticeably slower than the DS716+ in the random 512K testing. The write (upload) performance is significantly slower and we were surprised by this. The random 4K-QD32 results are interesting as the DS216+ is significantly slower than the DS716+ when comparing write performance, regardless of configuration....
