The Radeon HD 6950 performed very well when testing with Aliens vs. Predator delivering an impressive 42fps at 1920x1200. This made it just 2% slower than the GeForce GTX 570, though it was also 13% slower than the Radeon HD 6970. With a 17% performance increase over the HD 5870, 31% over the HD 6870, and a whopping 45% performance increase against the GeForce GTX 470, this was a superb result for the HD 6950....
With the The Elder Scrolls V Skyrim high resolution texture pack install the game is a little more demanding, though the Radeon HD 7870 was still able to spit out 46fps. This was an incredible result as it meant that the Radeon HD 7870 was just 2% slower than the Radeon HD 7950 and 2% faster than the GeForce GTX 580. The Radeon HD 7850 also did well, beating the GeForce GTX 570 by an 8% margin....
The R9 290X spat out 54.6fps in BioShock Infinite, 30% more than the HD 7970 GHz Edition, 2% more than the GTX 780 and 8% less than the GTX Titan. The R9 290X’s 34ms frame time performance was slightly slower than the HD 7970 GHz Edition, slightly faster than the GTX 780 and 25% behind the GTX Titan. The R9 290X delivered an impressive 46.8fps in Metro: Last Light, making it the fastest single-GPU graphics card we have tested in this game with 13% faster results than the GTX Titan and 18% faster than the GTX 780....
On our end, we’ve been stubborn about it and for the past year we have basically refused to check it out. But recently two RX 590 cards came our way and we thought, why not? Streaming expert and YouTuber EposVox published a performance preview of AMD’s new AV1 encoder, found in its RX 7000 series GPUs, and found the encoding quality to be surprisingly good for capturing gameplay. In practice, the encoder was able to get very close to Nvidia’s RTX 40 series NVENC encoder and sometimes outperform Intel’s Arc Alchemist counterpart, which is something AMD has not been able to accomplish in years. EposVox specifically tested with a Radeon RX 7900 XT in several titles, including Apex Legends, Battlefield 2042 and CSGO....
For those of you not yet up to speed, SAM or resizable BAR defines how much of your graphics cards VRAM is to be mapped for access by the CPU. Typically the CPU can access up to 256 MB of mapped VRAM, but with the resizable BAR it can have full access to the graphics cards’ VRAM buffer. There’s no real reason why the 256 MB limit exists, it was put in place back in the 32-bit era and hasn’t been altered since....
As expected, Zen 4 is AMD’s new CPU architecture built using TSMC 5nm technology. The new CPUs will utilize a new AM5 socket that supports lots of new features. We’ll discuss the 600 series chipsets in a bit, which will be coming to market to support the new CPUs. Some of the the key information released today involves the architectural advancements AMD is making with Zen 4. This is not a full architecture breakdown yet, but AMD has revealed that Zen 4 will have twice the L2 cache of Zen 3 per core, up to 1MB per core....
The first reports of the issues arrived on Blizzard’s forum around ten days ago. In addition to shutting down a PC, others write that they’ve experienced restarts, freezes, or a Blue Screen of Death. Blizzard acknowledged reports of the bug in a tweet that reads: “We are currently investigating an issue with computers restarting or shutting down while playing #Overwatch2.” Technical forum agent Jambrix is asking those affected to aid Blizzard in its investigation by posting their DXDIAG....

The Information released an in-depth report on Apple’s years-long attempt to build a self-driving car. Much of it chronicles details that anyone following “Project Titan” already knows, but the piece also includes some new tidbits concerning the car’s design and struggles. Currently, self-driving cars still must be able to relinquish control to humans for safety and have often had to during tests. The report mentions multiple cases where this happened with Titan....
To make sense of the figure, one could combine AMD, Intel, Nvidia, Netflix, Disney, Walmart and Bitcoin, and Apple is still worth more. The achievement is largely symbolic, but it does highlight just how much value Apple has added in a relatively short period of time. Apple reached a $1 trillion market cap in August 2018 and needed just two more years to hit the $2 trillion mark. The tech titan took only 16 months to tack on another $1 trillion to break through the $3 trillion barrier....
Bloomberg’s sources report that Apple employees are laying the groundwork to eventually allow iOS and iPadOS users to install apps outside the App Store. The process could involve allowing third-party app stores, sideloading, or both. The company may initially only open its walled garden for users in European Union countries to comply with new legislation. Of course, operating two separate infrastructures could prove problematic. Businesses and regulators have long criticized Apple’s role as the sole gatekeeper for all iPhone and iPad software, taking a 30-percent sales cut from all transactions on the platform....
Assuming they’re the real deal, the photos from Hardware leaker MEGAsizeGPU confirm that the most powerful Lovelace card will use an Nvidia design quite different from what we’ve seen before. They suggest that the PCB is vertical, meaning it will be parallel to the motherboard when the card is inserted. We can also see an exhaust grill so large that it covers two PCI slots, which could have led to Nvidia stacking the three DisplayPorts and one HDMI port vertically instead of horizontally....
The 4K-64 thread performance is also drastically improved, matching budget flash drives such as the Kingston SSDNow V+. Oddly, while Intel’s Smart Response Technology offered massive gains in AS SSD write access times, read access times were actually slower when using the SSD cache.

Because the memory controller and PCI Express lanes are housed within the LGA1156 processor, there is no need for the chipset to be positioned in the middle of the board. This gives more ample room to play with components, and allowed Asus to go a little nutty with their power delivery system. The P7P55D Deluxe features what Asus calls their groundbreaking 16+3 phase VRM design, which uses 16-phase for vCore and an additional 3-phase for the on-die memory controller....
Here the new Radeon HD 5770 trailed behind the Radeon HD 4870 by 2fps at 1920x1200 and 2560x1600, while it was 22% slower than the GeForce GTX 260 at the highest tested resolution. Once again the Radeon HD 5770 was found to be 33% faster than the Radeon HD 4770.
Left 4 Dead’s performance was probably the least impressive showing from the Radeon HD 5870. While AMD’s newest card was able to match the Radeon HD 4870 X2, it was merely 3fps faster than the GeForce GTX 285 and as much as 23% slower than the GeForce GTX 295. That said, however, the Radeon HD 5870 did improve on the Radeon HD 4870’s performance by a 53% margin. Resident Evil 5 scaled exceptionally well with Crossfire enabled; our Radeon HD 4870 X2 saw a 100% performance boost when compared to the single-GPU Radeon HD 4870....
