There’s also a screenshot showing an Intel Core i5-12400 reaching 5GHz on the board, a 14 percent improvement over its stock 4.4GHz boost frequency. This board will reportedly be available in both DDR4 and DDR5 variants. The chipmaker doesn’t shy away from disabling features to encourage consumers to opt for more expensive SKUs so hopefully, this overclocking method will still work on locked 13th-gen processors....

When adding a second graphics card the GeForce GTX 480 SLI setup was able to boost frame rates by 81%, versus a more moderate 56% performance gain with the Radeon HD 5870 Crossfire configuration. As a result the GeForce GTX 480 SLI setup allowed for 25% better performance in this game.

When we compare the RTX 2060 to the GTX 1070 Ti we see that on average it was 4% faster and there were about half a dozen instances where the RTX 2060 was slower by a 4% or greater margin. So far the only title to really hand the Turing GPUs a massive advantage over Pascal is Rainbow Six Siege, but this will be something to keep an eye on with future game releases....

The RTX 3070 Ti is based on Nvidia’s Ampere GA104 silicon. Nvidia first applied to trademark the name Hopper in 2020, and is rumored to be the successor to the Ampere architecture since. However, Hopper is also the name used by Dish Network for some of its products. Their use of it is in reference to a kangaroo literally hopping around. In April last year, they contested Nvidia’s trademark of the name, claiming that it infringes on their trademark of it in relation to telecommunications services....

While there’s no mention of the RTX 4000 series specifically, it’s hard to imagine that a tweet for something called ProjectBeyond is for anything other than Lovelace. The post comes from the Nvidia GeForce account, so it’s obviously gaming-related and not part of Nvidia’s other businesses, such as AI, datacenters, or its vehicle tech division. One of the few times Nvidia has mentioned its next-generation of gaming cards was during its Q2 2023 financial call, during which CEO Jensen Huang said the company would go into next year with its new architecture and that he was looking forward to revealing more at Nvidia’s GPU Technology Conference, better known as GTC....

Next up we have HD Tach. This is a test that the OCZ Vertex was unable to dominate with results that lagged behind the G.Skill Titan, Intel X25-M, and even the traditional hard drive in the Burst Speed test. On the other hand, it delivered the best result for the average read speed. The new OCZ Summit delivered a more balanced result that closely matched that of the Intel X25-M....

With a throughput of 502.2MB/s, the Vertex 4’s sequential read performance in AS SSD Benchmark was similar to the HyperX 3K, 830 Series and m4 drives while being 19% faster than the Octane. As with CrystalDiskMark, the Vertex 4 dominates the sequential write chart with a speed of 461.9MB/s, 45% faster than the HyperX 3K and almost 100% faster than the m4. The Vertex 4 displayed strong read performance in AS SSD Benchmark’s 4K-64 thread read test with a rate of 244MB/s, 20% faster than the HyperX 3K and 61% faster than the m4....

Every defective Nintendo Switch Joy-Con that users have sent back from the Eastern US has gone through one repair shop in Syracuse, New York. An anonymous former supervisor there told Kotaku that from around the time the console launched in 2017, the shop was constantly inundated with repair and replacement orders. The supervisor said thousands of Joy-Cons came through the repair center every week, requiring their own dedicated space and overwhelming the workers there....

With maximum brightness of just 420 nits at 100% white, this falls behind the top AMOLEDs and LCDs. However, the average picture level of AMOLEDs tends to be well above the base 100% white brightness level, so it competes reasonably well with other LCDs that produce 500 nits in side-by-side tests. This leads to good outdoor performance, and viewing angles are fantastic like most AMOLEDs. Color performance from the display on its default settings is really poor....

The ColorOS launcher is one that removes the app drawer entirely in favor of cluttering up your homescreens with every app you’ve downloaded. I’m not a fan of this design as I’d rather relegate my least used apps, along with any bloatware, to the app drawer, but at least you can create folders to dump numerous unnecessary apps that Oppo pre-loads on this handset. The notification panel has been completely redesigned to include an expandable section of quick toggles for basically everything you could want to adjust on the fly....

Fans of the original flower defense game were understandably miffed when they discovered the official follow-up would be launching exclusively on iOS, but what really worried folks (myself included) was the “free-to-play” business....

At the time, we compared graphics card performance using various presets and concluded that the best value combo for 60fps/1080p performance was the Ryzen 5 1400 and GTX 1060. Since then, updates to the game claim to have addressed the game’s poor optimization issues including a patch about four months back that improved CPU utilization by allowing the game to utilize six or more cores. That being the case, we thought it would be interesting to focus on CPU performance for this one....

Although we didn’t see it in the file transfer tests, the Plextor M6e can hit 700MB/s, that said this is sequential performance. The Plextor M6S and M6M both managed 500MB/s which is about as fast as modern SATA SSDs get. The Plextor M6e sequential write performance was also very strong at 580MB/s. The Plextor M6S and M6M delivered average performance with the M6S hitting 440MB/s which is comparable to the Samsung SSD 840 Pro but around 50MB/s slower than the fastest SATA SSDs....

There’s significant variance from one service to another when it comes to uptime, for example, while on the other hand given that the process involves using an HTTP redirect there’s also the latency issue. But perhaps more importantly is the fact that they obscure the target address and thus may be used to trick users to an unexpected destination. This means users are susceptible to something as innocent as being rickrolled to potentially much more harmful exposure, like being redirected to scamming websites or malware-ridden pages....
