Google and Microsoft already support the FIDO Alliance in its effort to build a set of passwordless login protocols. Marking World Password Day, Apple has joined the cause too. All three tech giants have pledged to make logins simpler across all their devices and operating systems over the next year. Samsung’s display division is reportedly developing a new under-panel camera technology that may bring about the death of the display notch on Apple’s iPhone. Apple shamelessly introduced the signature feature with the iPhone X in 2017. While most iPhone users have learned to live with it, others have gone as far as to sue the Cupertino company for “lying” about the screen size. The Elec reports that Samsung has a technology in development that could enable Face ID and the front camera to work from under the display....
If you recall, the third-gen iPhone SE packs a smaller 4.7-inch Retina HD display. Young did not say whether or not he believes the notch will contain a TrueDepth camera array to power Face ID. It is plausible that Apple will forego the feature and stick with the tried and true Touch ID sensor to keep costs down. Adopting a larger screen would likely force Apple to delete the capacitive Touch ID Home button typically located below the display and relocate it to the side of the handset, like on the iPad mini and iPad Air....
Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo tweeted Wednesday that Apple will release an iPhone in the second half of 2023 — possibly the iPhone 15 — that will use a USB-C port instead of its proprietary Lightning port. Kuo based his prediction on a supply chain survey. Kuo said switching to USB-C could lead to better transfer and charging speeds for hardware designs. Apple has faced pressure from regulators and users to offer iPhones compatible with USB-C cables, which many consumers already own....
The CoreHT darted past the AMD A8-3850 in the x264 HD Benchmark 3.0 with 60.1fps, making it the fastest system tested. When specifically compared to the Vision3D, we found the CoreHT to be 48% faster. Lastly, we put our systems through TMPGEnc 4.0 XPress and the CoreHT came out on top again, beating the AMD A8-3850 by almost two full minutes and the Asrock Vision 3D by more than five minutes....

The Radeon HD 4290 is just an overclocked version of the Radeon HD 4200 as it operates at 700MHz. In other words, the Radeon HD 4290 is a Radeon HD 3300 with support for DX 10.1, which is a little underwhelming. Using the Radeon 4350 logic with its 80 shader processors would have been a more exciting prospect, but here is the problem: AMD has not shrunk the 890GX chipset and is still manufacturing using a 55nm design process....

In Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 the Radeon HD 5830 defeated the old 4890 by a 19% margin. It was just 5% slower than the much more expensive GeForce GTX 285, and trailed the 5850 by a relatively small 6% performance margin. At 2560x1600 this equated to just 4fps, which doesn’t really make a difference above the 60fps mark.
With the GameWorks features disabled the GeForce GTX 980 Ti was 21% faster at 1080p and the Radeon R9 390X became 18% faster. Lower end GPUs such as the Radeon R9 280X picked up some much needed extra performance as well rendering 5fps more when comparing the minimums and 8fps more on average. Now at 1440p the GTX 980 Ti was around 16% faster with GameWorks disabled while the Radeon R9 390X picked up 23% more performance....

WinRAR’s built-in benchmark pegged the FX-8150 as the fastest processor by far, but the results are quite different in our own custom WinRAR compression test. Call of Duty: Black Ops can take advantage of four cores and is undoubtedly optimized for the current crop of chips. In fact, the game relies so heavily on all four cores that we found it almost unplayable (OK, that may be exaggerating a bit) on even the fastest dual-core CPU. That said, AMD’s triple-core Athlon II and Phenom II processors did provide lag free performance. Although it is a CPU bound game, Black Ops doesn’t rely on a processor’s L3 cache to perform at its best....
