Over the weekend, Indonesia banned several websites for noncompliance with a new law. The law, dubbed Ministerial Regulation Number 5 or MR5, requires “private electronic system providers” to register with the Indonesian Ministry of Communication and Information (Kominfo) and turn over specific users’ data. The law also requires companies to remove content that “disturbs public order” or that the Indonesian government deems “illegal.” Companies must respond to removal demands within 24 hours or four hours for “urgent” content....

Today, we’re getting an early look at Intel’s upcoming 14th-gen mobile platforms, including Meteor Lake-U, -P, and -H, courtesy of a new leak by Igor’s Lab. This generation of chips will be the first to feature Intel’s tile-based architecture, with the mobile CPUs mentioned today consisting of four tiles. The compute tile will use the Intel 4 manufacturing process and have up to six P-cores and eight E-cores on ML-P and -H, while the low-power ML-U processors will feature two fewer P-cores at the high-end....

In Just Cause 2, the 3820 was basically on par with the 3960X, both of which were a tad slower than the 2600K. Little changed in The Witcher 2: the 3820 fared a bit worse than the 3960X and both were outdone by the 2600K. Again, the 3820 slipped to the center of Crysis 2’s chart, behind the 3960X, 2600K and many other Intel processors.

The x264 HD Benchmark also shows the Intel Core i7 980X Extreme Edition offering a considerable performance gain over the Core i7 975 EE. The six-core processor was 13% faster than the latter in this benchmark with 90.3fps, while beating the Core i7 960, 950 and 920 by 18%, 24% and 39% margins, respectively. Last but not least TMPGEnc 4.0 Xpress was used for an avi to mpg conversion test, where the Intel Core i7 980X proved to be 12% quicker than the Core i7 975 EE – taking just 6:44 minutes in total versus 7....

Intel released its second-quarter earnings report for 2022 on Thursday. The company’s revenue dropped by 22 percent year-over-year to $15.3 billion, ending the quarter with a $454 million net loss, a 109 percent drop compared to the $5 billion in profit reported in Q2 2021. The chipmaker partly blamed the weakening demand for PCs and components caused by the recent decline in economic activity. In the past few years, computers saw a massive spike in demand as the pandemic forced people to work and spend more of their time at home....

Here’s a brief timeline of how this imminent launch took shape in the public eye: June 12, 2018: Intel’s former CEO Brian Krzanich tells investors at a private meeting that Intel has been silently developing a discrete GPU architecture, “Arctic Sound,” for years, and that it would be released in 2020. January 8, 2019: Senior VP of client computing Gregory Bryant during CES discloses that the upcoming GPU will be manufactured on Intel’s 10nm process....

A relative newcomer to the search market, DuckDuckGo isn’t shying away from the monumental task, however. In fact, with a simple, straightforward interface and clean results they’ve come up with one of the most appealing Google alternatives to date. Even if they are still far from changing the status quo, their no nonsense approach to privacy and instant answers are worth taking note of. The Treasury Department recently announced it would reconsider the Internal Revenue Service’s use of ID.me for providing access to its website. The agency explained to Senator Ron Wyden that it plans to drop the use of facial recognition tech for verification purposes. The rollback will happen gradually over the coming weeks in order to minimize disruptions during the tax filing season. The IRS originally intended to make a full transition to ID....

The average desktop replacement weighs around 6.5 pounds or more, sports a dual or quad-core processor, at least 4GB of RAM and 500GB of storage, and plenty of connectivity. Unfortunately battery life is not one of their strong points due to the large display and powerful hardware, so most of the time you’ll be looking at around 3 hours of autonomy. Laptops in this category start at around $1,000 but fully-loaded models can easily fetch upwards of $1,500....

The K330 series ranges in price from $699 up to our review unit’s $1,099 configuration (recently discounted). At 1920x1200, the Radeon HD 5830 closed the gap on the GeForce GTX 260, but both were still able to deliver very respectable frames. The Radeon HD 5770 and GeForce GTS 450 also landed above the 60fps threshold, while the GeForce 9800 GT and Radeon HD 4850 fell just below at 55 and 57fps. The Radeon HD 5830 and GeForce GTX 260 still achieved playable performance at 2560x1600, averaging 55fps, while the Radeon HD 5770 fell to 43fps and the GeForce GTS 450 rendered 40fps....

As battery testing takes a long time to complete, I decided to test the Pro 6 Plus in its ‘performance’ mode rather than its ‘balance’ mode. The reason for this is I don’t see anyone using the Pro 6 Plus in the balance mode because you’ll be left with crappy entry-level performance, rather than performance that matches this phone’s high-end price point. Normally we only test using a phone’s default settings, but the Pro 6 Plus is an unusual exception here that essentially requires this setting change for an acceptable experience....

On Thursday, a Microsoft spokesperson confirmed to Windows Central that the company is still working on a streaming-only device. It is iterating on hardware dedicated to Xbox Cloud Gaming—codenamed Keystone—but isn’t ready to unveil it publicly. This update validates a leak in March showing “Keystone” in a list of Microsoft operating systems. Gaming division head Phil Spencer hinted at Microsoft’s answer to the Chromecast in 2020, and the company confirmed the development of such a device last year....

Microsoft has previously demonstrated how it plans to bring the metaverse to businesses with its Mesh for Teams platform. The company also considers its $68.7 billion Activision Blizzard acquisition as ‘building blocks’ for the metaverse. While such developments may not mean much outside of cartoonish avatars in business meetings and a solid Xbox portfolio, Microsoft’s most promising bets for a metaverse future have always been its HoloLens headset and mixed-reality experiences....

Valve’s brief guide on the subject notes that roguelike games trace their roots to Rogue, the 1980 dungeon crawler from Michael Toy and Glenn Wichman. The title established many elements that would find their way into later games including randomly generated maps and the concept of perma death. Over time, games that strayed from this exact formula - allowing for respawns, for example - would become known as roguelites. Others that are often loosely classified in the same sub-category include Souls-like and Metroidvania, and all are marked down as part of the Going Rogue sale....

According to Counterpoint Research’s Market Pulse Service, Lenovo-owned Motorola was the number three smartphone firm in the US last year. In 2008, back when feature phones were the dominant variant, Motorola was the largest handset (smartphones and feature phones combined) OEM in the US, but 2021 marked the first time it has entered the top-three US smartphone market. One of the main reasons behind Motorola’s sales growing 131% last year was the long-predicted exit of LG from the phone business....

Here, the Moto G4 Play is marginally faster than the Moto G 2015, although the Adreno 306 delivers pretty uninspiring graphics performance in general. Despite having just a 720p display, the G4 Play falls behind many other smartphones on the market in on-screen comparison tests. In fact, it sits second to last on the GFXBench Manhattan On-Screen chart, only just ahead of last year’s Moto G. Hopefully we see the Snapdragon 410 retired shortly as the GPU power is lacking....

This is an entry-level gaming notebook powered by Intel’s new Core i7-7700HQ processor and a GeForce GTX 1050. It’s not the most beastly laptop going around, but it provides budget-conscious buyers with a wallet-friendly option that’s capable of playing today’s games, albeit at reduced quality settings....

As most people are aware, PC hardware usually comes packaged with a ton of papers, from competitions and membership programs to product registration cards and leaflets for related items.
