The blistering fast transfer speeds enabled by 10GbE are immediately evident. The DS3612xs went from 112.5MB/s on a Gigabit connection to 478.9MB/s. Despite sporting a faster processor, the QNAP TS-879 Pro was about 31% slower, reaching just 365.4MB/s.

The game copy evaluation uses a mixture of small and large files. The DS3612xs averaged 356.4MB/s or 26% faster than the TS-879 Pro. Compared to their Gigabit Ethernet speeds, which is limited to less than 115MB/s, we saw a significant boost when using 10GbE.

The program copy test is comprised of many small non-compressed files. The DS3612xs’s download speed was reduced to just 111.3MB/s, a 23% jump over the TS-879 Pro, though the latter was still 288% faster than its Gigabit Ethernet configuration.
